Helping Professionals And Businesses Realize The Benefits Of Drone Technology
Across Different Industries

December 13, 2017 – DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, today, launched the UTC (Unmanned Aerial Systems Training Center) in Hong Kong, a program designed to providing individual and business drone operators with professional training in the classroom and on the field. The Hong Kong UTC Program will be offering two courses to start, one on aerial photography and the other on industrial inspection. The UTC Hong Kong campus is located in Sha Tin and will be run by DJI’s Authorized Dealer OnTheGo (OTG).

“There are many industries that can benefit from using drone technology. For DJI, we want to help businesses realize the benefits of drone technology not just through our hardware solutions, but also through education and empowerment,” said Paul Xu, DJI’s Vice President and General Manager of UTC Program.

“As interest around our aerial technology continues to grow and with more enterprises adopting drones for their workflow, our goal is to establish an international industry standard so that professionals and enterprises can take advantage of this amazing technology. The UTC program will expand drone applications across different industries and help businesses accomplish tasks safer, faster, and with greater efficiency than ever before,” said Xu.

The aerial photography course will include the operational know-how (e.g. basic UAV regulations, product knowledge, flight planning and operational best practices) as well as the creative aspect (e.g. camera knowledge, aerial photography techniques and post-production process).

The industrial inspection curriculum will provide participants with the basic technical and operational know-how as well as knowledge and hands-on experience around inspection of infrastructures, power lines and power plants, and emergency response situations. Post-mission data analysis is crucial for business decision-making and will also be a core part of the training.

At the end of each course, participants will need to complete a knowledge and flight test. Once they’ve successfully passed the tests, they will receive a certification from UTC.

The UTC curriculum and content were designed by DJI with input from industry experts. OTG will carry out the training in the classroom and on the field with special emphasis on local applications. DJI will also work closely with OTG to ensure quality and consistency of the program and expand the UTC curriculum into other verticals in the near future.

According to third-party statistics, DJI owns approximately two-thirds of global civilian drone market share. “As demand for DJI's aerial imaging technology continues to grow, the UTC program will empower professionals and enterprises with the necessary knowledge and skills they need to become faster, more efficient in their line of work. UTC will also help nurture a new pool of talent and bring new business opportunities especially in the areas of surveying, construction, inspection and public safety. We look forward to working with professionals and enterprises in Hong Kong to grow the UAV ecosystem and bring this technology to different industries."

Since the program’s inception in China last year, UTC has already trained over 10,000 participants. The UTC Program was also introduced to Taiwan this past October.
